LP2 is done. Today I found myself with some downtime. Which felt a little weird. Fortunately, I had laundry... playing guitar... walking with friends... and sipping to keep me busy.. as well as the movie You're Gonna Miss Me. I'm a fan of the 13th Floor Elevators (and we'd maybe even do one of their songs if mere mortals could pull it off) ... so I was looking forward to watching this. Our friend Bill is a compadre of Roky and all the band. I'd heard a few good wild stories (often about Tommy) about the time the Elevators were living in. I knew that Roky had been messed around with by the cops, and was sent to a mental institution for smoking pot. I also knew that the songs he'd written were brilliant ... but he somehow went far, far away. Real far. Far.

Tonight, watching the film I finally felt like I had a better sense of this super interesting story. Made me want to see if others found it as intriguing. So, here I am with this pretty simple idea that I'd like to pass on to anyone (including my bandmates) interested in getting their hands on this DVD. Watch the movie. Watch the whole movie, as is. It makes an interesting point, in an interesting way. Then, switch to the "extras." Choose watching "all" of them. There's also an easy-to-miss "more" page of extras. You gotta watch the movie first, then all the extras. If you do that... and are sparked up by it... come back and post on this blog. If you didn't know much about the 13th Floor Elevators and the wordical gnar 'lar electric jug revue... you might find something cool here. If you like their music or any of the roots of rock, psych, noise, punk, blues - it's all here. To me it is at least. Thurston Moore kills me in the extras. Gibson Jerome Haynes gets stoned on camera, and says what no one else will say. And, if you can make it to the snuff box story, you've completed the ride.

If you have the time, get it. Netflix, whatever.. and please let me know what you think. Let's conversate on this thing. "Conversate" isn't even a word, apparently.

LP2 is done? Fantastic news.

Hey Joel! Seen it, love it.

Hey Joel!

Seen it, love it. If you enjoyed the film, and dig the Elevators, you should pick up Paul Drummond's excellent book "Eye Mind: The Saga of Roky Erickson and the 13th Floor Elevators, The Pioneers of Psychedelic Sound" for more of the story. Incredibly fascinating!

Hope y'all are well. Can't wait to hear the new record!

LINCOLN

Hi Lincoln, great to hear

Hi Lincoln, great to hear from you... Bill Bentley passed that book on to me, and I need to put it on top of a very tall stack of books I need to attend to. Hope to see you soon!
