In 1970, a U.K. band called Pretty Things recorded their fifth studio album, Parachute at Abbey Road. At the time of release the reviews were really positive. In fact, Rolling Stone named it album of the year, over Let It Be, Harvest, Morrison Hotel and many other classic albums. Yet, Parachute sort of slipped through the cracks. I found a copy of the first pressing on vinyl a few years ago and it is one of the best sounding records I've EVER heard. Every time I play it, every time....huge smile on my face. Mind blowing.
here is a link to some vinyl copies on ebay.

I discovered this record
I discovered this record about a year ago and was completely blown away. Perfect record. Perfectly recorded. The bulls eye that we are aiming for in our next release.
I've never heard it on vinyl, but I'm sure I would have to be alone in the room, unless everyone wanted to look at my boner!
And if you're gonna be as
And if you're gonna be as close as Atlanta, PLEASE come to Charleston! We'll show you some southern hospitality....
Hi Barb, I love Charleston

We shall ,we shall.
We shall ,we shall. Probably late Spring?
Wow, Russell! Had no idea
Wow, Russell!
Had no idea anyone (as) "modern minded" (as you!) really knew or would care about The Pretty Things.
When I was starting in radio in the Detroit/Windsor area circa '72, the track "Sickle Clowns" had been a gemstone amongst the rock being spun locally since its release, and, you're so right, its' one of "Parachutes" best examples of how incredibly well recorded the album is (the magic of Abbey Road studios perhaps?). The percussion aspect alone provides such a whallop! And it truly has stood the test of time. Glad you found the gate fold/vinyl package as most music fans would really dig that artwork...very artsy indeed!
Hope you also have "Savage Eye" and in particular "Silk Torpedo". The latter now available on iTunes includes a never before released version live version (from California!) of the album's (arguable) prime cut, "Dream Joey", which has a very Everest feel to it come to think of it. (Cover version, R! lol)
Anxious to hear your newest efforts from last month in the studio!
My very best wishes to you, yours & the E guys for a Merry Christmas & an all out rockin' 2010! ~B
